Nollywood actor, Jigan Babaoja, recently shared a reflection on his experience in America as a person with a disability
In a video he posted, he was seen being pushed in a wheelchair by a woman upon his arrival in the United States, a courtesy offered due to his leg condition.
Jigan Babaoja noted that, despite his initial hesitation owed to the Nigerian mentality that rejects pity, he has come to appreciate the support he has encountered in America.
He observed that, unlike in Nigeria, he has never seen a disabled person like himself walking alone without assistance in the US, noting the significant advantages of living in a society that prioritizes accessibility and support for people with disabilities.
Through his personal experience, Jigan Babaoja shed light on the importance of empathy and understanding in breaking down barriers and promoting inclusivity.
In his words: “The real advantage of disability in another part of the world 🌎, since I have been traveling up and down , they gave me option of getting a wheelchair cos of my leg, but Nigeria mentality of not wanting anyone to pity me hasn’t left my head ! Since I have been going around in the USA 🇺🇸 I have never see anyone like me walking by themself without someone pushing them !
