Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi met empty offices of senior government officials after making an unannounced visit to the state secretariat during working hours
During the inspection, the offices of the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service and the Accountant General were all found locked. Several commissioners and permanent secretaries were also absent from their duty posts.
The governor, however, met the Commissioner for Works in his office, while the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Health and Livestock Development were also present.
Of the state’s 18 commissioners, only one was found at work during the surprise visit.
Reacting to the situation, Governor Namadi condemned the absenteeism, warning that his administration would not condone indiscipline, misconduct or a lack of commitment among public officials.
He stressed that civil servants are expected to be at their duty posts and deliver efficient services to the people, adding that the inspection forms part of efforts to strengthen accountability, improve productivity and instill discipline across the state’s public service.
