Omoyele Sowore, has revealed that former President Goodluck Jonathan has agreed to speak with President Bola Tinubu about the continued detention of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu

Sowore shared this on Friday via his X handle after meeting with Jonathan in Abuja, noting that their discussion focused on the “urgent and compelling need” to resolve Kanu’s case “decisively and justly.”

“Earlier today in Abuja, I met with former President @GEJonathan to discuss the continued incarceration of Mazi @NnamdiKanu,” Sowore wrote. “President Jonathan agreed that there is an urgent and compelling need to address this matter decisively and justly. I thank him sincerely for recognising the importance of resolving Kanu’s case in the interest of peace, fairness, and national healing.”

Sowore further disclosed that Jonathan promised to meet President Tinubu soon to discuss the issue, joining other prominent Nigerians who have called for Kanu’s release, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Femi Falana (SAN), and Senator Shehu Sani.

Reaffirming his stance, Sowore said Kanu remains detained “because he took up the just cause of confronting the long-standing issue of marginalisation in Nigeria.”

He also appealed to other leaders such as Peter Obi, Charles Soludo, Alex Otti, Francis Nwifuru, Peter Mbah, Hope Uzodinma, Oby Ezekwesili, and Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s John Mbata to unite in demanding Kanu’s freedom.

Nnamdi Kanu has been in detention since 2021 following his re-arrest and extradition to Nigeria, despite several court orders granting him bail or ordering his release.
