As Peter Okoye continues to make allegations about royalty payments and the management of P-Square’s finances, another former member of the Square Records camp has revisited his own experience with Jude Okoye.
During a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, singer May D looked back on his time with Square Records, describing what he says led to the end of his relationship with the label.
According to May D, the turning point came after he was presented with a contract he was uncomfortable signing. Rather than accept the terms, he said he declined the offer, a decision he claims came with immediate consequences.
Recalling the incident, he said:
“Jude Okoye asked me to leave the boy’s quarters when I refused to sign a contract that I wasn’t satisfied with.”
May D was one of the artistes closely associated with P-Square during the group’s peak years. Between 2008 and 2012, he lived at the Okoye family’s Lagos residence while working with Square Records. During that period, he contributed to P-Square projects and also released songs such as “Soundtrack” and “Ile Ijo.”
He has also previously alleged that there was no formal recording contract when he joined the camp and claimed he did not have full financial transparency regarding earnings from performances and other activities. According to him, the relationship changed when a formal agreement was eventually presented.
His account has resurfaced as Peter Okoye continues releasing videos accusing Jude Okoye of withholding royalties and mishandling financial matters connected to P-Square. While May D’s experience predates the current dispute by several years and relates to his own time at Square Records, it adds another perspective to the wider conversation surrounding the label’s operations during that era.
May D’s comments and Peter Okoye’s recent allegations concern different situations and time periods, but both centre on their separate experiences with Jude Okoye’s management of Square Records.
