Nollywood actress, Jumoke George, has disclosed the reason behind her 14-year absence from the Nollywood, saying s.e.x for role was a part of it
Discussing the challenges she faced throughout her career, George attributed her prolonged hiatus to her dark complexion and her steadfast refusal to engage in se.xual favors for roles.
She explained:
“My dark complexion was not the only setback I faced in my career. Another reason for my 14-year absence is my refusal to compromise my values for roles. When directors criticized my skin tone, I suggested they adjust the lighting to better suit me.”
“You can’t pressure me into doing something I am uncomfortable with. I will embrace my skin forever, and remember, black does not crack. I encountered problems when numerous executives sought se.xual favors in exchange for roles.”
“I vowed that as long as God exists, I would never participate in such practices. I went three years without any movie roles and was confused until I ran into a director at Feminine Cafe at LTV 8. I asked him why I was no longer being considered for roles.”
“He revealed that the directors had collectively decided not to cast me because I refused their advances. I was devastated and cried when I got home, and I prayed for God’s guidance.”
Jumoke George’s experience sheds light on the harsh realities faced by women in the entertainment industry.
