JUST IN: Bayer Leverkusen sack Erik Ten Hag

Bayer Leverkusen have dismissed Erik Ten Hag as head coach after only two Bundesliga matches in charge, following a shaky start to the 2025–26 season

The decision came after a 3–3 draw against 10-man Werder Bremen, where Leverkusen squandered a 3–1 lead, exposing issues with team discipline and leadership. The club had also suffered a 2–1 home defeat to Hoffenheim earlier in the season.

Ten Hag, who replaced Xabi Alonso in May and was contracted through 2027, began his tenure with a 4–0 DFB-Pokal victory over SG Sonnenhof Großaspach. However, the team’s poor league performances led to his rapid exit.

Assistant coach Rogier Meijer will take temporary charge of training and match preparations until a permanent replacement is appointed.

The sacking adds to a recent trend of managerial instability involving former Manchester United managers, with José Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjær also losing their roles in recent weeks.

Leverkusen now face the challenge of steadying their campaign and finding a long-term coach capable of guiding the team back to stability.
