Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah on Tuesday officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC)
The announcement was made at the Enugu State Government House, attended by several national and state leaders of the APC. Mbah was immediately presented with his APC membership card, while the venue resonated with the song “On Your Mandate” to mark the occasion.

Mbah becomes the latest prominent politician and sitting governor to join the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the event, Mbah explained that his decision was driven by the need to align Enugu State with the federal government and strengthen the state’s potential. He acknowledged that leaving the PDP was a difficult choice but insisted it was necessary.
“For nearly three decades, PDP and the people of Enugu have walked side by side. Yet leadership sometimes demands principled and difficult decisions,” Mbah said.
“There comes a time when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny. We have made the decision to leave the PDP and join the APC. I have found in President Tinubu not just a leader of our nation, but a partner in purpose. Together we share a conviction that transformation must be bold and disruptive. We need an ally who can match our ambition. This is not a detour but a conscious step towards a more compelling future,” he added.
