President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a sweeping shake-up in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, appointing new Service Chiefs in what the presidency described as a strategic move to reinforce the country’s security structure
In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Chief Sunday Dare, the president announced the appointment of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, as the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa.

The newly appointed Service Chiefs are as follows:
- Chief of Defence Staff: Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede
- Chief of Army Staff: Major-General W. Shaibu
- Chief of Air Staff: Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke
- Chief of Naval Staff: Rear Admiral I. Abbas
- Chief of Defence Intelligence: Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye (retained his position)
The appointments take immediate effect and signal the president’s renewed focus on improving coordination and operational efficiency within Nigeria’s military and security agencies.
