Ezenwa Onyewuchi, who represents Imo East in the Nigerian Senate, has left the Labour Party (LP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read out Senator Onyewuchi’s letter announcing his change of party on Tuesday during a session in the Senate chamber.
Interestingly, Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State and the leader of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), was present in the Senate chamber when the announcement was made.
This move represents a significant shift in political allegiance for Senator Onyewuchi, moving from the opposition Labour Party to the ruling APC. Such party switches can potentially impact the balance of power in the Senate and have implications for local politics in Imo State.
The reasons for Senator Onyewuchi’s decision to change parties were not immediately clear from the information provided in the defection letter.
