After being banned from entering the UK, Kanye West is facing a ban from France
The rapper is set to perform at Marseille’s Stade Velodrome in June, but may not be able to if France follows the UK in blocking his entry to the country
In April, West was announced as the headline act of the London-based festival Wireless Festival. The announcement was met with severe backlash due to West’s antisemitism. On 7 April, the Home Office took the decision to block the rapper from entering the UK and denied his visa. As such, the festival was cancelled.
According to global news agency AFP, a source close to the French interior minister Laurent Nuñez said that he is looking to ban West from France too, ahead of his 11 June concert in Marseille.
The source told the agency that Nuñez is “highly determined” to make sure the show is cancelled due to West’s antisemitism, which includes making a song called Heil Hitler and releasing a swastika T-shirt for sale on his website. Nuñez has reportedly already started the process to ban the rapper from travelling to France.
Marseille’s mayor Benoît Payan has also previously stated his opposition to West’s performance in his city. He write on X in March: “I refuse to let Marseille be a showcase for those who promote hatred and unapologetic Nazism. Kanye West is not welcome at the Velodrome, our temple of living together and of all Marseillais.”
