A woman was arrested for stealing a car, claiming Kanye West told her to do it.
The car had a child inside.Police were called on Friday morning to North Main Street after reports of a woman trying to enter random cars parked outside businesses.
Evansville Police identified the suspect as Ricki Smith from Louisville, Kentucky. She attempted to get into a woman’s car as the woman was heading into a store.
The car owner, who was dropping her child off at daycare and stopped at the store, saw Smith in her vehicle. She pulled Smith out of the car by her hair, according to police.
Smith explained that she was traveling from Louisville to Evansville when her car broke down on Interstate 64, forcing her to hitchhike the rest of the way.
When questioned by police, Smith claimed Kanye West “telegraphically” instructed her to steal the car. She was arrested and taken to Vanderburgh County Jail.
Authorities later found that Smith had crashed her car into trees off I-64, which led her to abandon it.
Smith now faces charges of kidnapping and auto theft, according to jail records.
