Kebbi Govt secures N10b loan for Hajj

The Kebbi State Government has secured a N10bn loan to provide 1,300 additional Hajj seats for residents participating in the 2026 pilgrimage

The loan was approved to meet the December 5 deadline set by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), the Chairman of the State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Alhaji Faruku Aliyu-Yaro, said.

Briefing journalists in Birnin Kebbi over the weekend, Aliyu-Yaro praised Governor Nasir Idris for what he described as a “decisive, compassionate, and people-centred intervention.” He explained that the state faced the risk of losing hundreds of Hajj seats due to the NAHCON deadline, which initially had no provision for extension.

“Many intending pilgrims were already in tears because they thought they would miss the exercise. But the governor stepped in at the most critical moment. He deserves special prayers from the people of Kebbi State,” he said.

The chairman noted that the N10 billion loan not only secured Kebbi’s full allocation but also allowed more residents to participate. As a result, the deadline for payment of the 2026 Hajj fare of N7,696,769.79 has been extended to December 16.

“This development ensures that all intending pilgrims from the 21 local government areas—including Argungu, Yauri, Zuru, and Bagudo—have a fair chance to participate. Nobody willing to perform Hajj should be left behind,” Aliyu-Yaro said.
