In a series of posts on Facebook and TikTok, the 60-year-old—who has long been estranged from her family—announced that she is not accepting condolences and has cut ties with the Olunloyo family for good.

“I am NOT part of the Olunloyo family anymore,” she wrote. “I told you in 2024 that I will never return to Nigeria even if my parents died.”

In a follow-up video, she added, “I am not condoling with anybody. If you want to condole with my father’s family, go to Facebook.com/omololuolunloyo.”

Kemi, once a journalist, used the occasion to lay bare long-held grievances, accusing her late father of emotional and physical abuse. She painted a picture of a man who lived two very different lives—one as a respected intellectual and public servant, the other as a damaging force within his household.

“My father was two people. The man the world saw was not the man we knew at home,” she said. “He emotionally and physically tortured us. He destroyed our family.”

She went on to claim that her father publicly portrayed her as his “favourite daughter,” but that the reality was one of exploitation and manipulation. “He used me,” she said. “He took advantage of my positivity, but behind closed doors, he treated me like I was nothing.”

Kemi also alleged that her father was involved in occult practices, saying she first exposed this on his 80th birthday. According to her, that confrontation prompted him to seek spiritual redemption.

“My father was deep into ‘juju.’ After I called him out, he went to Pastor Adeboye to become born-again — and he did,” she said.

She attributed much of the family’s downfall to her father’s second marriage to Ronke Sonaike—later known as Aderonke Omololu Olunloyo—who had worked on his 1983 gubernatorial campaign. Kemi claimed the marriage marked a turning point that worsened internal tensions.

Reflecting on her late brother Tayo, who suffered brain damage during a student protest and remained disabled for decades until his death in 2021, Kemi said, “They destroyed his future. Tayo could have been a great mathematician. They killed his destiny.”

Though she stated she has forgiven her father, she made it clear she would not take part in his funeral or any family proceedings.

Her fractured relationship with her father was made public years ago. In 2022, the late governor disowned Kemi during a BBC Yoruba interview, labeling her actions “disgraceful” and urging the public to disregard her statements.

Victor Omololu Olunloyo, who served as governor during Nigeria’s second republic, died at the age of 89. While he leaves behind a legacy in academia and politics, his daughter’s revelations have stirred controversy and cast a long shadow over the family’s legacy.
