Superstar rapper Kendrick Lamar, the Compton native who made headlines this summer with his highly publicized feud with Drake, has unexpectedly dropped a new album
The “Not Like Us” artist released the 12-track, 44-minute project titled GNX on streaming platforms Friday morning, accompanied by a brief video on YouTube.
The album marks Lamar’s first release since 2022’s Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers and is his sixth studio album. He’s widely celebrated for his groundbreaking projects, including 2012’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City and 2015’s To Pimp a Butterfly.
None of the tracks on GNX had been teased prior to the release, although the album’s second track, “Squabble Up,” briefly appeared at the start of his “Not Like Us” video. Lamar released the album without any prior promotion or announcements.
The surprise release comes ahead of Lamar’s highly anticipated performance as the headlining act at February’s Super Bowl in New Orleans.
