Patients across the country are left unattended, raising concerns about the state of healthcare. The strike has been initiated by the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union. It is a response to the government’s failure to fulfil promises outlined in a 2017 agreement. The 2017 agreement followed a 100-day strike that resulted in numerous deaths due to inadequate medical care.

The impact of the strike is palpable nationwide, with patients experiencing delays in receiving medical attention or being turned away altogether from hospitals. Josephine Njeri, a patient at Kenyatta National Hospital, recounted spending hours waiting without receiving care due to the absence of doctors.

Healthcare authorities are attempting to address the situation, with Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha visiting hospitals to assess operations. However, concerns persist as the strike exacerbates an already strained healthcare system.
