KlintonCod defends Peter Okoye over children's language criticism

Comedian KlintonCod has defended Peter Okoye after the singer came under fire over claims that his children do not speak his native Nigerian language.

Reacting to the criticism, KlintonCod said he understands Peter’s position, revealing that he has had similar disagreements with his own father over the languages his children speak.

According to the comedian, his father is often unhappy that his children speak French and English but not Igbo. However, he believes parents should prioritise languages that can give their children more opportunities later in life.

KlintonCod, however, made it clear that he is not against his children learning Igbo. He said if he has the opportunity to teach them the language, he would, but his priority is equipping them with languages he believes will benefit them more as adults.

KlintonCod wrote:

“Crazy thing is, I have argued this with my own father a thousand times. They are always upset that my kids speak French and English but not Igbo, and my response is simple: The world is progressing, but Nigeria regresses on a daily basis. Most people are leaving the country, and 10 out of 10 times they will not use Igbo in a white man’s land. Speaking French and English, or any globally recognised language, will open far better doors for your kids than Igbo or Yoruba will, unless they have plans to become Igbo or Yoruba movie actors or artistry.

Now, it doesn’t mean if I have the opportunity to teach them Igbo I wouldn’t, but I will prioritise a language that will help their lives in adulthood over anything else.”

His comments came hours after Peter Okoye told critics to mind their business after they questioned why his children do not speak a Nigerian language. Peter stated that parents should be free to decide how to raise their children without interference from others.
