Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has said that ass@ssin@ting Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, could bring an end to the ongoing conflict between the two countries
In a 20-minute interview with ABC News, Netanyahu defended Israel’s escalating military operations in Iran, saying the goal was to “defang” a rising threat to Israel and global security.
When asked about reports that former U.S. President Donald Trump had once blocked an Israeli plot to ki!l Khamenei for fear of a massive escalation, Netanyahu dismissed the concern.
“It’s not going to escalate the conflict, it’s going to end the conflict,” he said.
He went on to liken Khamenei to “a modern Hitler,” accusing the Iranian leader of pushing the region toward a nuclear catastrophe.
“The forever war is what Iran wants. They are dragging us all to the brink of nuclear war,” Netanyahu said. “What Israel is doing is stopping that aggression. We’re standing up to the forces of evil.”
While he stopped short of confirming an active plan to assassinate Khamenei, Netanyahu said: “We’re doing what we need to do.”
As Israel intensifies airstrikes on Iranian targets, including nuclear and missile facilities, Iran has responded with missile attacks of its own, raising fears of a full-blown regional war.
Despite the rising tensions, Netanyahu remains firm in his stance, warning the West not to underestimate Iran’s ambitions.
“Today it’s Tel Aviv, tomorrow it’s New York,” he said, pointing to Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs as global threats.
Netanyahu, who has ramped up media outreach in the U.S., accused Khamenei of backing terror groups across the Middle East and vowed that Israel would never allow Iran to acquire the means to execute its threats.
“He won’t stop,” Netanyahu said. “But we’ll make sure he doesn’t have the means.”
He concluded by stating that Israel’s actions go beyond defense: “This is about preventing the most horrific war imaginable—and creating a path to peace in the Middle East. That can only happen if Iran is defanged.”
