Veteran singer, Konga, has demanded 60 per cent of the earnings from Burna Boy’s track Update, alleging that his work was sampled without consent

During interview on the Hits Don’t Lie podcast, Konga claimed that Burna Boy never reached out to him before or after using his material, despite him raising the issue publicly several months ago.

He drew a comparison to American singer Toni Braxton, whose song was sampled on Burna Boy’s Last Last, noting that she received 60 per cent of the royalties. “If Toni Braxton is getting 60% of Last Last, why can’t he come and meet me first, talk to me?” Konga questioned.

Konga said he has refrained from pursuing legal action out of respect for Burna Boy and his contributions to African music on the global stage.

“If Toni Braxton is having 60% royalty of Last Last, why can’t he do the same thing to come and meet me first, talk to me?” Konga said.

He added that this is not the first time his work has been used, claiming Burna Boy also incorporated his lyrics in the remix of Sungba with Asake.

Konga explained that after his earlier request for a collaboration on his song Kabakaba was ignored, he decided to take a different approach and is now sampling Burna Boy’s music without permission.
