Kourtney Kardashian has promised to teach her children about ‘white privilege’ amid mounting race protests.
The 41-year-old Keeping Up With The Kardashians star has said that it is her “responsibility” to have ‘honest conversations’ with her kids about racial equality, even if it makes them “uncomfortable.”
As her brother-in-law Kanye West joins protests in Chicago, after donating $2 million to funds for grieving families, Kourtney has said that she needs to step up with her education of her children on the matters of race.
Writing on Instagram, Kourtney shared her plans with her followers.
She told them: “As a mother there is a natural instinct to protect my children from anything that might make them feel sad or unsafe.
“The pain and suffering inflicted by racism is not a thing of the past and I bare the responsibility to speak with my kids honestly and often about it, even when the truth is uncomfortable.”
The reality star continued: “I have to make sure they understand what it means to have white privilege and to take the time to learn and discuss Black History, beyond just one short month out of the year.”
Her words come in response to the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police.
Writing about her three children that she has with Scott Disick – Mason, 10, Penelope, seven, and Reign, five – the Poosh lifestyle founder added that she hopes to “encourage other mothers to join me in using this as a learning lesson for our children, to allow our children to feel comfortable enough to come talk to us about anything.”
Kourtney continued: “Allow conversation without judgement and learn from our children too. We don’t know it all.
“My children sometimes ask questions that I may not know the answers to, so we explore them together.”
