Nollywood actor Kunle Afod has sparked concern online after sharing a video of veteran Nigerian musician Innocent Onyebuchi, popularly known as Daddy Fresh, in a hospital battling a prolonged illness
The video, posted on Afod’s Facebook page on Wednesday, shows the music legend lying in a hospital bed as Afod checks on him. In his caption, Afod wrote: “Daddy Fresh must not die – one of Nigeria’s finest artists is in a terrible condition.”
In the video, Daddy Fresh, dressed in a blue sleeveless top, initially struggled to recognise Afod. “Oba,” he said faintly. Afod replied, “It’s Afod, Kunle Afod.” Surprised, the musician asked if it was real and expressed relief at seeing him.
Speaking about his health, Daddy Fresh revealed he has been bedridden for over two and a half years. He detailed the toll the illness has taken, saying it drained his finances and caused hallucinations. He also listed multiple medical issues, including kidney and liver problems, neuropathy, and impaired vision.
“My blood is very low, 25%, and I need immediate blood transfusions, two or three packs,” Daddy Fresh said. “If I try to stand, I will fall unless someone supports me. See my face, my knees, my wounds from falling like a child learning to walk.”
The musician also disclosed that he faces possible eviction from his apartment due to unpaid rent, saying he has only a few days left in his home. Despite being bedridden, he has been trying to raise funds for the rent.
Daddy Fresh further expressed his belief that unseen enemies may be behind his prolonged illness but said Afod’s visit gave him hope.
After giving Daddy Fresh some financial support, Afod appealed to the public and entertainment industry to help the musician.
“This is Daddy Fresh. If you know him, you know what I’m talking about. He has been down with sickness for over three years. I decided to visit him in the hospital. Nigerians, entertainers, we need your support. Let’s keep him alive. I met him in a very, very bad state,” Afod said.
The actor urged Nigerians and the music community to provide both financial and moral support to ensure Daddy Fresh recovers and survives his ongoing health battles.
