The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has said it is open to allowing former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing him of betrayal and anti-party activities

The party’s National Secretary, Oginni Olaposi, made the statement on Sunday in Lagos while reacting to the recent resignation of APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and growing speculation about Kwankwaso’s possible defection to the APC.

Ganduje stepped down on Friday, citing health concerns, but Olaposi believes the move may be linked to a broader political deal involving Kwankwaso.

“Kwankwaso still claims to be a member of our party, despite being expelled over anti-party activities,” Olaposi said.

He further accused the former governor of attempting to hijack the NNPP and dragging it into unnecessary legal battles.

“Kwankwaso did not only try to take over the NNPP but also plunged the party into avoidable litigations,” he added.

According to Olaposi, the party only recently regained its original identity after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) restored its authentic logo—replacing the Kwankwasiya Movement symbol allegedly imposed by Kwankwaso.

“The logo Kwankwaso changed to his movement’s emblem has finally been corrected by INEC, ending years of confusion and legal challenges,” he stated.

Addressing Ganduje’s resignation, Olaposi cast doubt on the official explanation, saying, “We don’t believe the propaganda that Ganduje left APC solely for health reasons. It appears to be part of a larger negotiation involving Kwankwaso ahead of 2027.”

He also recalled Ganduje’s previous remarks about the APC’s willingness to welcome back defectors.

“It’s on record that Ganduje once said the APC is always ready to pardon and accommodate former members,” he noted.

Olaposi concluded by saying NNPP members would be relieved to see Kwankwaso leave for good.

“He betrayed our trust and tried to hijack the party from its founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, who had given him a free presidential ticket in 2023,” he said.
