Kwara resident, Mrs T. A. Olorisha, whose house was destroyed in a suspected arson attack in the Isale Koko area of Ilorin, has alleged that the incident may be connected to threats she received over her religious beliefs
The Kwara State Police Command confirmed that the house was set ablaze on January 1, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m. while Mrs Olorisha was away, adding that no life was lost because no one was inside the building at the time of the fire.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the incident was officially reported at about 10:00 p.m. on January 2 at the C Division Police Station, Oja Oba, Ilorin.
“The complainant, Mrs T. A. Olorisha, alleged that her house was set ablaze by unknown persons on 1st Jan., 2026, at about 7:00 p.m., while she was away from home,” Ejire-Adeyemi said.
She added, “Mrs Olorisha further alleged that she had received threats in November 2025 from some individuals over religious differences, as she is a traditional worshipper.”
The police spokesperson said Mrs Olorisha provided useful information that led to the invitation of three suspects, who have since been detained and are assisting with the investigation. She noted that the value of the property destroyed is yet to be determined.
“The command assures members of the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspected perpetrators, while all allegations are being diligently investigated,” Ejire-Adeyemi said.
She also stated, “The Kwara State Police Command reiterates its commitment to protecting lives, property, and the fundamental rights of all residents, regardless of religious or cultural beliefs,” urging members of the public to remain calm and support the investigation with credible information.
