This follows a statement made by Abayomi Arabambi, a former factional spokesperson of the party, who announced on national television that plans were underway to remove Obi over his involvement in the ADC-led coalition.

In response, the LP issued a statement signed by Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser to the Acting National Chairman, describing those behind the expulsion claim as “political jesters” with no affiliation to the party.

“The attention of the Labour Party has been drawn to plans by a group of impostors—unknown to the party but claiming membership—to hold a kangaroo NEC meeting with the aim of expelling His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi,” the statement read.

“These individuals, clearly working for unseen forces, are desperate to cause confusion and derail the coalition efforts being championed by Mr. Obi. Their claims are not only laughable but also illegal.”

The statement emphasized that the Labour Party had already made its position clear in a May 25 announcement, fully supporting Obi’s involvement in coalition discussions aimed at unifying opposition forces ahead of the 2027 elections.

“We urge Nigerians to disregard these political comedians, whose only source of relevance is attacking Peter Obi,” it added. “Their charade is nearing its end, and the public can see through their theatrics.”

The party reaffirmed that Obi remains a central figure in its coalition strategy and warned that any attempts to discredit him would ultimately fail.
