Ladi Adebutu, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, who was earlier detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) has been released

He was released today.

Adebutu’s arrest on Monday had been confirmed by the PDP’s Ogun State Publicity Secretary, Kayode Adebayo, who stated that the politician was held at the DSS Ogun State Command in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Reports indicate that Adebutu was invited for questioning over alleged disturbances during last Saturday’s local government elections.

The PDP earlier issued a statement saying, “This is to inform members of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, that our leader has indeed been detained by the DSS on charges that are yet to be disclosed.

“However, our principal has called for calm and assured all party members, supporters, and well-wishers that this is a challenge that will pass. It is one of the sacrifices for our democracy.

“Efforts to secure his bail, either on personal recognition or with a surety, as of 10 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024, have not been successful. His legal team has been informed and will pursue the matter on Tuesday morning.
