The Lagos State government has reaffirmed its decision to ban unregulated commercial bus operations, such as Danfos and Koropes, along the Lekki-Epe corridor starting October 1, 2024
According to Vanguard, the government’s transportation adviser, Sola Giwa, clarified that this move aligns with the state’s Strategic Transportation Master Plan (STMP) and aims to improve the commuting experience in the area.
To achieve this, the government is collaborating with public transport bus operators and union leaders to regulate and integrate the informal transport sector into the State’s Bus Reform Initiative.
The plan includes restructuring existing bus operations, deploying high-capacity buses, re-routing mini buses, introducing an e-ticketing system, and providing transport infrastructure.
The implementation will be done in phases, and operators who fail to comply will face fines and forfeiture of their vehicles.
The government aims to enhance safety, passenger comfort, and security along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
