The Lagos State Government has announced that it is working with the World Health Organization (WHO) to contain a cholera outbreak at Kirikiri prison

According to Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, 25 cases of severe gastroenteritis caused by cholera have been reported at the prison.
The outbreak is linked to unregulated street drinks and contaminated water sources identified two weeks ago.
The state government has implemented urgent medical and environmental measures, including supplying intravenous fluids and infection prevention materials to the prison.
The WHO has donated 10,000 doses of pharmaceuticals to support prevention strategies for the approximately 3,200 inmates.
Immediate water and sanitation issues have been addressed, and inspections of other correctional facilities in the state are ongoing.
The government’s swift response aims to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread of the disease.
