Content creator Lasisi Elenu has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other state governors to take a serious look at Nigeria’s healthcare system.

Speaking about his personal experiences and those of people around him in a post he shared, Lasisi said he had tried several times over the past few months to make the video but struggled to keep his emotions under control.

He said the state of healthcare in Nigeria is deeply worrying, particularly when people in urgent need of treatment are turned away from hospitals because there is no available bed space.

According to him, patients and their families are sometimes forced to move from one hospital to another while trying to find somewhere they can receive treatment.

Lasisi also spoke about the loss of his mother in 2022, saying she was moved between different federal hospitals, with the family repeatedly being told there was no bed space.

He recalled the difficulty his family faced trying to get her admitted, including having to rely on personal connections within the medical system.

He said the situation has made him question why Nigerians still struggle to access basic medical care in a country where hospitals should be places of safety during emergencies.

Lasisi also raised concerns about the shortage of doctors, nurses, beds, oxygen, blood and medication, arguing that some lives are being lost over things that should be readily available in a functioning healthcare system.

He appealed to government officials to look beyond painting or renovating hospital buildings and instead focus on providing properly equipped facilities that can actually attend to patients.

He said:

“I really pray for every Nigerian out there.
I pray for your health. I pray you will not have an emergency. I pray you will not have a need to be rushed to the hospital. The Nigerian hospitals have failed too many people. They have failed too many people. They have failed me. They have failed my family.”
