A tragic incident occurred at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta on Saturday, resulting in the d3ath of 35-year-old zoo worker Babaji Daule

According to Ogun State Police Command spokesman Omolola Odutola, “A deadly incident involving a wild animal attack was reported on September 28, 2024, at 7:40 hrs. Babaji Daule, a 35-year-old trained lion handler from Bauchi State, tragically lost his life.”
Daule’s negligence in securing the lion’s enclosure allowed the animal to escape and attack him, inflicting fatal neck injuries.
The library’s management explained that Daule had agreed to demonstrate the lion’s feeding routine to late-arriving guests, deviating from standard protocol.
Feeling comfortable with the animal, he left the safety gate open and was attacked and k!lled.
To prevent further harm, park personnel humanely euthanized the lion. Daule’s body was taken to the Ijaye General Hospital mortuary.
The management emphasized that this incident fell outside standard feeding routines. Investigations have begun, and the matter has been reported to the police.
