Lionel Messi’s dad has hit out at the critics of his son’s seventh Ballon d’Or title with a post on Instagram.
Messi got his hands on an unprecedented seventh title on Monday night, eclipsing Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski by 33 points.
Voices from around the world of football have slated the outcome and claimed Lewandowski was more deserving after his prodigious scoring form across the last two seasons. He scored 23 goals more than Messi in 2021 and won the Bundesliga.
Now Messi’s father Jorge has spoken out, captioning a picture of his son: ‘Bla bla bla… continue.’
Messi finally won a title on the internatonal stage this year with Argentina – the Copa America – while also lifting the Copa del Rey with Barcelona.
It proved to be his last trophy at the Nou Camp. Barcelona were unable to afford to extend his contract so Messi paid an emotional goodbye before joining French giants PSG.
