Liverpool extended their lead to nine points at the top of the Premier League with a crucial 2-0 victory over a Manchester City side in turmoil

Pep Guardiola’s team now find themselves 11 points behind in fifth place, following their seventh consecutive match without a win, highlighting the depth of their current crisis.
This latest defeat at Anfield, where City have only won once in their last 22 league visits, offers little hope of a turnaround. It also marks the first time since 2007 that City have lost four consecutive league games in the same season.
Arsenal remain the closest contenders, but even they face a tough challenge after Arne Slot’s side secured their 18th win out of 20 this season with ease.
Cody Gakpo’s 12th-minute goal gave Liverpool a strong start, and it was Mohamed Salah’s late penalty, his sixth consecutive league goal and his sixth in eight matches against City, that sealed the win for the hosts.
