The 39-year-old Croatian midfielder, who joined Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, will depart as the most decorated player in the club’s history, having won 28 major trophies—including six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga crowns.

Modrić is expected to play his final home game at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday, May 24, against Real Sociedad. The club is planning a tribute to honor his remarkable contributions.

Although Modrić had expressed a desire to stay and was even willing to accept a reduced salary, reports say the club has opted not to renew his contract beyond the Club World Cup.

Despite his departure from Real Madrid, Modrić has no plans to retire from football. He is reportedly considering his next move, with one surprising option being Swansea City in England’s Championship—where he recently became a minority owner. He is also said to be aiming for a fifth World Cup appearance with Croatia in 2026.

Modrić’s exit marks the end of an era at Real Madrid, where he has left a lasting legacy as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation.
