Mali has been thrown into turmoil following a series of coordinated attacks across the country that claimed the life of Defence Minister Sadio Camara
Authorities said his residence in Kati was hit by a suicide car bomb, triggering a fierce gunfight. The minister was injured in the assault and later died in hospital, according to government spokesperson Issa Ousmane Coulibaly, who confirmed the development in a televised statement.
The de.adly incident formed part of a broader wave of violence targeting both military and civilian locations, including the capital, Bamako.
Amid the escalating crisis, the United Nations urged the global community to step up efforts in tackling growing insecurity and extremist threats across the Sahel.
Earlier reports from the Malian Army indicated that armed groups launched simultaneous attacks on several military installations nationwide.
Witnesses and local media described intense clashes and explosions in key areas such as the Kati military base, surroundings of Modibo Keita International Airport, and major northern and central cities including Kidal, Gao, and Ségou.
Mali has battled persistent insecurity since 2012, with violence driven by insurgent groups, criminal networks, and banditry spilling over into neighbouring Burkina Faso and Niger.
