Segun Olowookere, an Osun State resident sentenced to d3ath in 2010 for allegedly stealing a chicken and eggs, has been released after 13 years in prison

On December 26, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State granted clemency to 53 convicts, including Olowookere.
The pardon followed a viral interview with Nigerian actress Biola Adebayo, where Olowookere’s parents alleged his wrongful arrest by state police. His father, Olanrewaju, claimed that a divisional police officer (DPO) demanded a bribe for his release, and their inability to pay led to his imprisonment.
In a video shared on Monday, Adebayo stood with Olowookere outside Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison, thanking the governor for his intervention.
She also expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their support and highlighted the commendations Olowookere received from prison officials for his good conduct.
“This is Segun Olowookere; we are just leaving Kirikiri. He is finally out of the correctional center. Thank you so much for the love and support we received,” Adebayo said.
“Segun is a very good guy. The testimonies at the correctional center were amazing. We are glad that he is out now for good. Thank you to Governor Ademola Adeleke; we are grateful.”
