A man has been charged over the attack on an Australian MP, Helen Haines on Monday
The 43-year-old suspect has been charged with dangerous driving causing serious injury; intentionally causing serious injury; and causing harm to a Commonwealth public official.

Police say they “will allege the incident was targeted”. The suspect is due in court on Wednesday.
The suspect has not been formally identified, but he was named by local media as Brendan Nugent.
His father, Rod, says he and his partner were friends with Helen Haines “for more than 20 years”, and calls the attack “devastating and unfathomable”

Haines, 65, is in a critical but stable condition and has reportedly lost a leg after being hit by the suspect’s car outside her office in Victoria
A local barber, Ricky Jefferies, says he pulled the suspect from the car and threw away his kn!fe – another person sat in front of the car, he says.
