Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee both scored twice as Manchester United cruised to a 4-0 victory over Everton in Ruben Amorim’s first Premier League home game in charge
After a frustrating 1-1 draw against Ipswich in Amorim’s debut last weekend, Manchester United were much improved, with Rashford opening the scoring in the 34th minute. His low strike deflected in off Jarrad Branthwaite after being set up by Bruno Fernandes from a corner.
Seven minutes later, Zirkzee, making his first Premier League start since September, doubled the lead with a close-range finish, again thanks to a Fernandes assist after Branthwaite’s error in possession.
Everton had started the match brightly, with Beto missing a couple of early chances, but their defensive collapse continued right after the break. Just 20 seconds into the second half, more sloppiness allowed Amad Diallo to set up Rashford for his second goal, finishing calmly after being played through.
Diallo then stole the ball from James Tarkowski, racing forward to set up Zirkzee for his second goal, completing a ruthless counter-attacking move that sealed a dominant 4-0 win for United.
Zirkzee’s brace capped a clinical performance, with Manchester United converting all four of their shots on target. The victory lifted them to ninth in the Premier League table, while Everton’s woes deepened, with no wins in their last five matches and four consecutive games without a goal, leaving them just two points above the relegation zone in 15th.
For Amorim and Manchester United, it was a hugely positive result, following Thursday’s Europa League win over Bodo/Glimt, and a strong start to his managerial tenure at Old Trafford.
