Emmanuel Myam, popularly known as Emmi Wuks, has ignited nationwide debate after setting off on an audacious mission to cycle from Nigeria to the United States
The 25-year-old adventurer from Benue State is no stranger to bold stunts. In 2022, he pedaled from Makurdi to Lagos in hopes of meeting music superstar Davido. Though he completed the nine-day journey and gained attention—including sponsorship from Fearless Energy Drink—he never met the singer.
Now, Emmi Wuks is attempting what many consider an impossible feat: riding a bicycle across continents to reach America. His new quest, which began on Monday at the main gate of Lagos State University of Education, Oto/Ijanikin, has triggered a wave of reactions both online and offline.
While some have hailed his bravery, others are raising concerns over his well-being and safety. Social media user KengKeng Ati wrote, “Some of you urging Emmi Wuks on are leading him to his grave. He should be bundled to the nearest psychiatric hospital. Whatever drugs he might be abusing must be discovered now.”
Adding to the controversy, Peter Abugu filed a formal petition to the Nigeria Police Force, calling for Emmi Wuks’ arrest. “This is a suicidal mission. Suicide is a criminal offence in Nigeria. Immigration should intercept him before it’s too late,” he wrote.
Despite the backlash, Emmi Wuks is also gaining support. Human rights lawyer Ibn Madaki compared him to visionaries like Karl Benz, Henry Ford, and Elon Musk, arguing that dreamers have always faced ridicule before changing the world.
“Even if his method is unconventional, his courage deserves reflection, not ridicule,” Madaki said.
Another supporter, Iveren Jude-Iorver, wrote simply: “My prayers are with you. History is about to be made.”
Beyond personal ambition, Emmi Wuks says his mission has a purpose: to raise awareness for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable children in Nigeria, especially in his home state of Benue, which has long suffered from terrorist attacks and mass displacement.
“This is more than a journey—it’s a mission of hope, courage, and resilience,” he shared on social media.
As the young cyclist presses forward, his journey has become a national talking point—splitting opinion between admiration and alarm, but undeniably capturing attention.
