Several people are feared d3ad after a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) tanker exploded near Karu Bridge, Abuja, on Wednesday evening
A video obtained by our correspondent captured frantic calls for help, reporting that trapped motorists were burning after the explosion.
Witnesses said the truck lost control near the Karu Bridge, located between Kugbo and Nyanya on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway.
The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) confirmed the incident, stating that the explosion occurred at approximately 7:14 p.m. In a statement, FEMD’s Head of Forecasting Response and Mitigation, Mark Nyam, explained that the accident happened when the CNG truck driver lost control and crashed into other vehicles, triggering the explosion.
Emergency response teams, including FEMD, the Federal Fire Service, the FCT Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, and the National Emergency Management Agency, were deployed to the scene to carry out rescue operations.
