Mauricio Pochettino, the former Chelsea and PSG manager, has been linked to the vacant England men’s national team position but is instead set to join the United States national team
Pochettino departed Chelsea by mutual consent after guiding the club to a sixth-place finish.
He will now reunite with his former Chelsea colleague, Anthony Hudson, who is the current US assistant coach.
The US team is looking to bounce back from a disappointing Copa America 2024 campaign, where they failed to advance from their group despite boasting a talented squad featuring Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, and Antonee Robinson.
With the expanded format and home advantage in the 2026 World Cup, the team is optimistic about their chances.
US Soccer’s sporting director, Brian McBride, had stated that the hiring process would focus solely on finding the best candidate, without any restrictions.
Pochettino’s appointment is seen as a significant coup for the US team, bringing his expertise and experience to the role
