Meghan Markle’s estranged father is in intensive care after being rushed to hospital in the Philippines for emergency surgery
Thomas Markle, 81, fell gravely ill at his home on Tuesday and was rushed into a three-hour operation.
He is now being treated in intensive care and faces another surgery to remove a blood clot.
His son, Thomas Jr, who is also estranged from the Duchess of Sussex, said doctors told him Mr Markle’s life was in “imminent danger”.
“I took dad to a hospital close to our home and they did various scans and the doctors said his life was in imminent danger.
“They raced us by ambulance, with the sirens going, to a much bigger hospital in the centre of the city. My dad has undergone emergency surgery. I would ask everyone around the world to keep him in their thoughts,” he told the Daily Mail.
Mr Markle, a retired Hollywood lighting director, has been estranged from Meghan since her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry. He has not met Harry, nor his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet.
Thomas Jr added that his “only wish is that Meghan shows my father some compassion. He is literally fighting for his life”.
Thomas Jr said his father is expected to remain in hospital for “a long time” and will face a “gruelling” recovery.
Samantha Markle, who has been a vocal critic of her half-sister, added that she believes the stress of the last few years has contributed to his poor health.
“He is a strong man, but he has been through so much. I am praying that he is strong enough to survive this.
“My father has been through two heart attacks, a stroke and an earthquake. I hope he can pull through this,” she added to the publication.
