The Nigerian Army has released details regarding the d3ath of a soldier who suffered fatal head injuries after being attacked by a mentally unstable individual in Imota, Ikorodu, Lagos State
The incident took place on 16 November 2025, around 4:00 pm, during an internal security operation. The soldier had been deployed to help calm a tense situation in the community when he was struck on the head with a heavy stick, sustaining severe injuries.

“The soldier was struck on the head by a mentally unstable person while attempting to restore order in Imota. Colleagues at the scene swiftly neutralized the attacker and recovered the soldier’s weapon,” the Army stated.
The injured soldier was rushed to Ikorodu General Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. He was later laid to rest according to Islamic rites, with the Acting Commanding Officer and other officers of the 81 Division present.
The Army extended condolences to the soldier’s family, friends, and loved ones, recognizing his commitment and service to the nation. An official investigation has been launched by the 81 Division to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The statement, signed by Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, also addressed a viral video linked to the incident:
“The Headquarters 81 Division Nigerian Army has taken note of the viral video related to this tragic incident. While an investigation is ongoing, it is important to provide preliminary information regarding the events of that day.”
