Nollywood star Mercy Johnson-Okojie has spoken candidly about her recent health challenges and the reason behind her noticeable weight loss
The actress, whose slimmer appearance had stirred concern and speculation online, revealed during a heartfelt conversation with veteran actress Joke Silva that she went through a cancer scare which led to the removal of her thyroid.
“I had a cancer scare and had to undergo thyroid surgery,” she said. “It was a journey for us, especially since my youngest child was just six months old at the time. My husband and I kept reminding ourselves that this was our new reality—we had to face it together and get the surgery done.”
Johnson-Okojie shared that after the procedure, she was told she would need to rely on medication for the rest of her life. “They told me I couldn’t skip a dose and explained all the possible side effects,” she said. “So yes, the weight loss you’re seeing is part of that. I’m at a place now where I’ve accepted it. This is our life now, and we’re learning to grow from here and find peace in this new normal.”
Her honesty has resonated with fans, many of whom have praised her bravery and vulnerability in sharing such a personal experience.
