A devastating mid-air collision occurred near Washington, D.C., on the evening of January 29, 2025, involving an American Airlines jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter

The crash, which took place as the jet approached Reagan National Airport, resulted in both aircraft plunging into the Potomac River.
The American Eagle flight 5342, en route from Wichita, Kansas, had 60 passengers and four crew members on board, while the Black Hawk helicopter carried three crew members. Officials have confirmed that all 67 individuals are feared dead.

Recovery efforts have been hampered by freezing temperatures and challenging conditions in the river, with emergency teams retrieving 28 bodies so far. Authorities have warned that hopes of finding survivors are fading.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
