Mikel Obi names Claude Makelele his MENTOR in football

Former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi recently honored his former Chelsea teammate, Claude Makelele, calling him the greatest mentor of his career.

Both players were pivotal for Chelsea under manager José Mourinho, with Makelele known for redefining the defensive midfield role and Mikel making his own mark after joining in 2006.

On an episode of “The Obi One Podcast,” Mikel expressed deep admiration for Makelele, saying, “My mentor, my idol in my position that I played. For me, he is the greatest that has ever played in that position. You must be doing something right if you have a position named after you.”

He emphasized Makelele’s importance to Chelsea’s success, stating, “He was integral in every game for Chelsea. Without him, the midfield won’t stand.”

Mikel spent 11 successful years at Chelsea, securing two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and the 2011-12 Champions League.
