A militant group known as the Niger Delta Rescue Movement (NDRM) has issued a warning to non-indigenes in Rivers State, urging them to leave immediately for their safety due to rising political tensions

In a video circulating online, armed men dressed in military-style outfits accused certain lawmakers of plotting to destabilize the state by issuing a 48-hour ultimatum for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to present the 2025 budget. The group claimed this was an attempt to trigger a state of emergency or force the governor’s impeachment.
The NDRM called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene, warning that if the federal government failed to release Rivers State’s due allocation, they would take drastic action, including disrupting oil production in the Niger Delta. They argued that it was unjust for Rivers State to generate significant revenue for the country while being denied its rightful funds for workers’ salaries and development projects.
The group emphasized that while they preferred a peaceful resolution, they would not hesitate to act if necessary to protect the state’s interests. Their threats and evacuation warning have sparked fear and uncertainty among residents, increasing concerns over the security situation in Rivers State.
