BREAKING: NLC insists on N250k minimum wage

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced on Thursday that Nigerian workers will now receive a minimum wage of N70,000.

This decision came during a meeting with leaders of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja.

Among the key agreements reached between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Organized Labour Unions are:

– President Tinubu’s approval of a N70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers, with a commitment to review the national minimum wage law every three years.

– President Tinubu pledged to explore ways to support the private sector and sub-national governments in implementing the new minimum wage.

– President Tinubu also committed to using discretionary powers to address the demands of university unions seeking payment for four months of unpaid salaries.

– Additionally, President Tinubu announced a donation of 36 CNG-powered buses, each capable of seating 100 people, to the TUC and NLC.

NLC President Joe Ajaero explained that the decision to accept the N70,000 offer, despite initially demanding N250,000, was influenced by the additional incentives included in the offer. He cited the promise of a wage review every three years, a departure from past practices, as another reason for accepting the agreement.
