Minnesota has declared declared October 6th, Wizkid Day
The proclamation, signed by then-Governor Mark Dayton in 2018, recognized Wizkid’s outstanding contributions to music and his global influence.

The declaration highlighted several of Wizkid’s milestones, including:
- Being the first Nigerian artist to feature on a No. 1 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with Drake’s “One Dance” in 2016.
- Selling out London’s O2 Arena in May 2018, a historic feat for a Nigerian musician.
- Walking the runway for international fashion brand Dolce & Gabbana in June 2018, becoming the first African artist to do so.
- Collaborating with Nike on a project to fund schools across Africa, starting with Nigeria.
- Winning multiple prestigious awards, including three Billboard Music Awards.
On that day, thousands of fans gathered at Minneapolis’ Skyway Theatre to celebrate Wizkid’s music and achievements, marking a major cultural milestone for the city.
Since then, October 6 has been celebrated annually as Wizkid Day in Minnesota, honoring the singer’s enduring impact on music and culture worldwide.
