Minority Caucus demands compensation, probe for 76 released children

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has called for compensation for the 76 children who were charged with terrorism and treason for participating in the #EndBadGovernance protest last August

In a statement issued by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda and three other caucus members, the group commended President Bola Tinubu for ordering the children’s release.

However, the opposition lawmakers urged an investigation into the children’s arraignment and accountability for those responsible.

“Following the immediate release of about 76 young children charged with terrorism, treason, and arson by the Nigerian Police Force for their participation in the #EndBadGovernance protest, the Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives applauds President Bola Tinubu for being responsive to the calls of Nigerians and the international community.

“We commend President Tinubu for his prompt directive, which came just days after the children’s arraignment, prompting the Attorney-General of the Federation to seek control and ultimately dismiss the case.

“While we praise the President for his timely intervention, the Caucus strongly calls for a thorough investigation and disciplinary action against individuals and government agencies involved in this despicable and inhumane act, which has caused national embarrassment and drawn international condemnation,” the statement emphasized.
