Mo Abudu and Omotola Ekeinde break silence on Nollywood cinema slot rumours

0

Mo Abudu, the EbonyLife Group CEO has dismissed rumours of a hidden “cabal” manipulating which films get cinema slots, insisting that box office performance is the true measure of success.

Appearing on ARISE TV, Mo Abudu emphasized the commercial realities behind cinema scheduling.

“There is no cabal. This is not about sentiment or favouritism; it is about return on investment,”
she said.

She went on to explain the simple economics that drive cinema decisions:

“If a film cannot fill seats, it will be replaced no matter who owns it. If I am running air‑conditioning, paying staff, and only two or three people are sitting in a 100‑seat cinema, that film will lose its slot. It is purely business.”

Adding to the discussion, acclaimed actress and philanthropist Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde also highlighted that cinema operations are fundamentally business-driven.

The statements from Abudu and Omotola send a clear message: success in Nollywood is measured by audience engagement and box office results, not favoritism or backroom deals.

As the industry continues to grow, the two stars are championing transparency, professionalism, and merit-based recognition, reminding filmmakers and cinema-goers alike that quality and performance speak louder than speculation.
