Monday Motivation: Who Do Reople Say You Are? By Sydney Ugbeda

When you come in contact with people, you are being judged.
Whether you are having a discussion with someone for the first time or you are
before an interview panel. People tend to form a perception of you and most
times they go as for as judging your character and competence.

So I ask again, who do people say you are? I don’t want to hear you say: I
think people say i am good and competent person. The moment you are not sure of
the answer to my question, then your brand is at the mercy of other people.

Over the weekend I had the privilege to speak at a conference and someone
walked to me and said sir: when I saw you name and picture on bill, I asked how
did they get this powerful guy? Hearing this from this young man, the baby in
me leaped for joy. You have to be in control of how people perceive you, even
if you don’t have 100% control, who you say you are should not be totally
different from who people say you are.

So I think the question you should provide answer to is: who do you say you
are. That’s where is starts from, you must be clear about your identity. To
take control of how other people see or perceive you is not a function of how
you look but how you feel inside. To start with, you take stock of your
    strengths and weaknesses,
know what you are good at and be very good at it, do not focus on trying to
eliminate your weaknesses rather expand your strengths and your weaknesses
    become irrelevant.

You must be able to communicate your brand promise which is what I stand to
gain when I come in contact with you. This is where the magic is, some people
are aware of their strengths but don’t know how to communicate it to other
people thus affecting how people see them. The communication starts before you
open your mouth, the way you carry yourself tells a lot about about you.
Technology has made it possible for people to know you even before they get to
meet you, so what ever you do on social media platforms must be communicating
    your brand promise and essence.

Be strategic, be deliberate, don’t leave the way you are perceived to chances,
    be behind the wheel.

More on this in my subsequent posts.
