As Nigerians prepare to celebrate Valentine’s Day, lawyer Stan Alieke has cautioned against creating money cakes or bouquets, stating that these gestures are punishable by law

In a statement shared on Instagram, Alieke referenced Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act 2007, which stipulates a minimum six-month jail term for such offenses.
Alieke urged individuals to explore alternative ways to express love and affection, emphasizing that ignorance of the law is not a valid defense.
His warning serves as a reminder to Nigerians to be mindful of the legal implications of their actions, even in celebratory contexts.
He wrote, “Making of money cakes, money flowers or money bouquets are all criminal offences punishable with at least six months jail term as provided in S 21 of the CBN act 2007.
So if you have a money cake/money bouquet as one of the Valentine gifts you intend to gift your partner today, know that you may land yourself in jail and ignorance of the law is not an excuse.”
